Virtual Easter Egg Hunt

This time is bringing so many new things, and we hope that you are able to find new ways to connect with your congregations.  Many of us were dismayed to find it necessary to cancel our Easter Egg Hunts, so we are launching a joint virtual event between PC(USA) churches, camp ministries, and other interested churches, hosted on social media on Saturday, April 11!

We are asking you to forward to your educators, children’s ministry directors, and camp ministries so they can let us know if they would like to register to participate!

Attached, please find two options for marketing materials.  We are asking our congregations to consider the Easter story in Scripture, and provide a picture of an egg and tell us what Easter means to them.  These will be posted on Facebook and/or Instagram by 12pm on Saturday, April 11, and our families can “hunt” them, making a list of churches and camps or even a map of the places they find eggs!  Most importantly, it gives families and opportunity to talk and discover the meaning of Easter together.

The posts will be connected using the hashtag #onebasket2020 and will include a tag of the church or camp ministryIn order to protect our children from a recent increase in hashtag trolling, we have provided you the option to have your congregation submit their images to you directly, which you can then post online from church social media.  Please use your judgment as to which route you would like to go.

  1. Share the attached graphic of your choice with your congregation via social media, in emails, and on your website.  Encourage them to participate!
  2. If you are having your congregation submit images to you, have them submit by Thursday, April 9. Begin posting them whenever you want!
  3. Beginning now and by noon on Saturday, April 11, you or your members can post the pictures to Facebook and/or Instagram  The posts should include the hashtag #onebasket2020 and tag your church or camp ministry.
  4. Families can search the hashtags to find eggs after noon on Saturday, April 11! Children are encouraged to search with their families.  Get creative… count how many you find, how many churches and camps you find them from, or even map out the places your eggs are coming from!

*Guardians should always monitor their children online.  We cannot control the use of hashtags or other items in your newsfeeds, so we all need to watch and make sure anything inappropriate is reported.

  1. Churches and camps will be able to challenge/tag each other using the hashtag too!
  2. If you have other materials or ideas you would like to post, please let me know!
