Presbytery Helps Virginia City Church

Nevada Presbytery meeting at Zephyr Point Conference Center at Lake Tahoe in September received $1,796 in the worship offering to help the Virginia City First Presbyterian Church preserve their 150 year old classic Gothic church building.

Since the mid-1950’s the building has been painted several times, attempting to preserve the original wood. However, these existing multiple layers of paint are now badly weathered and peeling in many places. This results in an unsightly building but most importantly, is destructive to the exposed and aging wood.

The Session has determined a polymer based coating and extensive surface preparation will provide lasting beauty and the necessary protection from the harsh weather of Virginia City for a cost of $20,000. The 22 member congregation has raised $3,000 to date.

At Presbytery, Wednesday, September 14th, the Committee on Ministry announced that the Presbytery Small Church Assistance Fund will cover the remaining cost! Get scraping and painting VC!
